In a very special collaboration with the Silicon Valley Jewish Film Festival and the Consulate General of Israel to the Pacific Northwest, please join Cinequest as we celebrate Israel?s 60th Anniversary for a special evening with author and screenwriter Ron Leshem and a very special screening of Beaufort. Winner of the Silver Bear for best director at the 2007 Berlin Film Festival and Israel?s official nomination for the Foreign Language Film category at the Oscars, director Joseph Cedar employs an effective minimalist style to his intense, subtle study of war based on the celebrated novel by Leshem. Serving as an examination of the futility of war, and with more recent Israeli Lebanese history clearly in mind, Beaufort is a haunting and beautiful portrayal of not only tragedy but of the strength and fragility of the human condition.
