What Children Do

Running time: 87 mins

Reunited and it feels so…well, I guess, okay? In the years since sisters Amy and Shannon were little kids, you would expect their relationship to have matured. You’d be wrong. Thrust back into each other’s lives by the impending death of their grandmother, their reunion is anything but comfortable. The small town vibe is repulsive to Amy of Hollywood, who just can’t seem to find a decent cup of coffee anywhere (but vodka seems to be a decent replacement), forcing the more reserved Shannon to adapt to Amy’s wild ways. However, three years of being estranged does not make the sisters’ reunion and easy pill, and the combination of old flames, overzealous pastors, and overdue DVDs makes repairing the feral relationship something else. Writer/director Dean Peterson’s cleverly written and acerbic comedy of dysfunction carefully captures when polar opposites collide, yet are forced to deal with life head-on. - Zarin Khan Preceded by the short film: The Cuddler; dir.
