Life In A Fishbowl
Running time: 130 mins
Icelands official entry for Best Foreign Language Film for the Oscars is a touching and complex drama of life in Iceland. During Iceland's 2008 economic meltdown, three people lead a double life in Baldvin Zophoniasson's powerhouse drama set in Reykjavik, Iceland. Eik is a single mother and school teacher, who masquerades as a high-end prostitute. Former athlete Solvi now works in the corporate field and struggles with ethical dilemmas. Mori is a once-well-respected writer who is now a full-fledged alcoholic. Through very decisive changes, their three lives will intersect in very unexpected ways so that each finds redemption. And, although you might think you know what happens with each character as you watch, there are many curveballs that reveal a more complicated and complex narrative wherein not everything is as it seems. - Michael Rabehl
