Halfway
Running time: 115 mins
Problem one: the old tenant won't move out. Problem two: he can't. He's a ghost. Sef is having a rough patch. He's just been divorced, his wife kicked him out, he's lost his old job and his new account, and the lovely new house he's just moved into is haunted. Theo, the ghost of the previous owner, considers the house still his, with Sef the interloper. What follows is a battle of wills between Theo and Sef. But with the arrival of the lovely and innocent young Julie, things take an unexpected turn. This genre-bending film, starting out as a light-hearted ghost-comedy only to become something much more, is a prime example of quirky and hugely entertaining Belgian cinema. - Charlie Cockey
