Minnie Driver stars in this stunning musical from the producers of Billy Elliot. It's the summer of 1976 in Swansea. Unorthodox, free-spirited schoolteacher Vivienne (Minnie Driver) is attempting to put on an ambitious Tommy-style rock opera version of Shakespeare's The Tempest, featuring contemporary hits. Viv faces opposition from various uptight staff members, but catches a break when she persuades the headmaster to play Prospero. Meanwhile, Viv's students are all experiencing their formative years with an abundance of coming-of-age problems, and it seems like this musical may never get made. Warmly directed and engaging, Hunky Dory features a wonderful central performance from Minnie Driver and stunning musical sequences, including re-imagined versions of songs from David Bowie and Nick Drake.
