Far Out Isn't Far Enough: The Tomi Ungerer Story
Running time: 98 mins
One man's wild, lifelong adventure of testing societal boundaries through subversive art.
Tomi Ungerer was a celebrated '50s children's author, greatly influencing others, including Maurice Sendak. In the '60s, Tomi's innovative talents produced iconic anti-war posters. But all along he had a secret passion with his art - and when it was discovered, his career was dramatically impacted.
Director Brad Bernstein tracked Tomi down to tell his story after 40 years of silence in self-exile. Using extraordinary and vibrant animation, Tomi's work and innermost thoughts come to life, including traumatic memories of growing up under Nazi rule. Witnessing Tomi's amazing journey, we see a man who uses his own demons to create indelible art, crossing all boundaries and generations. - Sandy Wolf
