Vanessa lives in Alaska with her husband, Maurice, and their five children. When she dreams that God tells her to move, the family heads for the land of golden opportunity, Las Vegas. While living out of their car and struggling to survive, Vanessa sneaks the kids into casino pools as Maurice gambles away the last of their money

But Vanessa is a survivor and eventually lands a good job as an ironworker. The family moves into an upscale home, and Vanessa and Maurice appear to have fulfilled their American Dream. Then, the Great Recession hits, and hits Vegas hard. As their lives come tumbling down, Maurice stumbles, but Vanessa vows never to give up.
