Nannerl, Mozart's Sister

Running time: 120 mins

Like her brother, Maria Anna Mozart was a musical prodigy ahead of her time, but tragically the 18th Century wasn?t fair to women. This is her story.

Mozart had a sister, Maria Anna, nicknamed Nannerl, who was a talented musician and composer in her own right. However, she gave up everything to assist her family in their quest to help her younger brother rise to fame and later to ensure that his works lived on well after Wolfgang himself.

Director Rene Feret follows Nannerl?s story from the early oppressive influence of her father, who forbade her from learning composition because of her fragile femininity, and of her one chance at true love with the Dauphin of Paris. A heartbreaking and beautiful story of a young girl?s attempt to emerge from her prodigious brother?s shadow, Nannerl, Mozart?s Sister combines moving drama with a wonderful soundtrack showcasing the Mozart family music?though Nannerl?s original compositions have been lost.
