Irena Sendler: In the Name of Their Mothers

Running time: 60 mins

In WWII German-occupied Warsaw, Poland, tiny Irena Sendler and a daring ?conspiracy of women? performed astonishing acts of heroism and bravery ? and saved the lives of over 2,500 Jewish children.

Using any means possible, Irena Sendler and her friends rescued Warsaw Ghetto children who would otherwise have been shipped off to certain death: by hiding them with willing families, creating false documents, even smuggling them out of the ghetto under the eyes of the Germans. But it is the profoundly committed artistry of filmmaker Mary Skinner that brings the horror, sadness and magnitude of Sendler?s story so overwhelmingly to life, appealing not only to the mind but also to the soul.

Though tortured by the Germans and later persecuted by the Polish communists, when asked if she harbored any hatred for the Germans she replied, "I don't hate anybody." All this she did not out of hatred, but out of love.
