80 Days

Running time: 65 mins

No matter how old you are, life is full of surprises.

Axun and Maite, once close schoolgirl friends, now both 70 years old, haven?t seen each other in some 50 years. Meeting again in a hospital while caring for relatives, they discover that though their lives have gone in quite different directions, their friendship has not dimmed. As they spend time together, the nature of their relationship starts to change, and conservative Axun experiences new feelings that both excite and confuse her. Maite is comfortable with her sexuality, but Axun has a husband of many years who is devoted to her, and she finds herself torn between two powerful desires.

This beautifully rendered story, anchored by a subtle, highly intelligent script and some splendid acting, particularly by Itziar Aizpuru as Axun and José Ramón Argoitia as her gruff husband, shows that life is for living and that Basque cinema is alive and well.
