Wild Grass

Running time: 104 mins

After the cinema, nothing surprises you. Everything is possible.

Fifty years ago, legendary director Alain Resnais introduced the world to Hiroshima mon amour, which was praised as ?the first modern film of sound cinema.? In his 18th feature film, Resnais recounts the tale of a middle-aged married man whose obsession with another woman leads to unexpected and often bizarre circumstances.

The superb André Dussollier (A Heart in Winter, A Very Long Engagement) plays Georges Palet, who becomes obsessed with a woman, Marguerite (Sabine Azéma), after discovering her lost wallet. Georges tries to meet up with Marguerite to return her wallet, and although at first bewildered by his persistence, she ultimately develops an attraction to his eccentric personality, and they end up falling in love? sort of.

Alain Resnais takes a highly imaginative approach to dark humor, toying with audience expectations on both the level of the plot and the technique. Beautifully shot with an eye for expressive imagery, the exquisitely poetic vision of Wild Grass reveals the work of a veteran who knows immediately how to lead the audience down unexpected paths.
