Winner: Best Picture, South African Horrorfest

In a startling debut, director Faye Jackson breathes new life and intelligence into the bloodsucker genre with a brilliant dark comedy that turns expectations on edge.

Vlad returns home to his little Romanian village to find that not all is right. The corrupt local landowner, Constantin, is supposedly dead, but Vlad sees him stalking around town at night looking sickly, bloated and red ? and craving pickles. The local drunk is dead, and though the townspeople who are watching his body until his burial claim it was from natural causes, Vlad believes he was murdered. As Vlad dives deeper into his investigation, the situation only becomes more convoluted and perplexing.

A visually stunning and multi-layered work of art, Strigoi announces a creative powerhouse in Jackson, who balances horror, humor and post-communist Romanian politics with complete ease. One thing is certain: Strigoi is like nothing you have seen before.
