Who draws the line between avenger and criminal?
A peaceful man and a successful surgeon, Bruno Hamel suddenly finds his life spiraling out of control following the brutal killing of his young daughter. Civil justice is not enough for the bereft father, so Bruno decides to replace grief with revenge and capture the killer himself as the criminal is transported to the courthouse. What follows is a disturbing ritual of despair, violence and vengeance as father and killer come face to face in an isolated cabin in the woods.
Emphasizing the frigid moods and muted emotional turmoil of the characters, director Daniel Grou displays a strikingly precise style that immerses the viewer into a dark world of suspense and human monsters. Reminiscent of the controversial work of Michael Haneke (Funny Games, The Piano Teacher), this is a gritty film of limit-pushing tension.
