The Distraction

Running time: 86 mins

Cinequest is extremely pleased to add this special screening of Greg Tennant's The Distraction, the story of a young man struggling between instinct and rationality in his new marriage, as his attraction to another woman leads to obsession. Paul is confident in his love for his wife Ally. Taking a new job far from his home, life and friends is a challenge for Paul until he meets co-worker Leslie. Immediately attracted to Leslie, their growing friendship becomes a ray of light in Paul's otherwise mundane existence. But guilt soon takes hold, as Paul remembers how his wife's past affair affected him. Ally, however, is burdened by guilt over the past affair and encourages Paul to befriend Leslie in order to make his job more enjoyable. With its subtly-drawn, psychologically convincing characters, The Distraction examines human relationships in a fresh light. With strong performances from each actor (especially from the "distraction" herself Jennifer Pruitt) and a strong visual and emotional sense, The Distraction is a sure fire bet for representing the eclectic and thought-provoking maverick cinema coming from Bay Area artists.
