Waiting for the Man

Running time: 90 mins

Mafia boss Frank Martel is executed after it is learned that the story of his life is about to become a book. Thrown into upheaval, Martel's family, the police, and the rest of the underworld scramble for the manuscripts, sending all of the characters on a wild, roller coaster ride through the violence of Chicago's crime-ridden streets. Stepping in to preserve his father's name, Andrew Martel must team up with the one man he really does not want to, Lindsey McQueen, his father's longtime bodyguard and friend. With conflicting business styles--Andrew using money to buy what he wants and Lindsey using force--this unlikely duo must unite in an all-out war with the external forces who are bent on driving the Martel cartel into the ground. One of the newfound genres of the '90s is the "anti-buddy" film. Get ready for a "superb, hyper-violent crime thriller," because with his film Waiting for the Man, Chicago-based filmmaker John Covert has unleashed his own lion on the genre. It is a film about betrayal, survival, and the coming of age for two lost souls who must become men. --Mike Rabehl
