Is your name safe?
Luís Galvão Teles, whose film Elles won the Audience Favorite Choice Award in 1999 and also joined the festival in 2005 with Fado Blues, returns with Dot.Com, a wondrous tale wherein the cold hand of big business casts its ugly shadow upon a poor, unsuspecting village.
Old world meets new world when the villagers who barely understand what the Internet is unite together to honor and fight for the popular website name, Águas-Altas, the name of their 800 year-old village. Potent International Spanish Corporation also named Águas-Altas, whose claim to fame is its bottled mineral water, pushes the village to extremes when it decides to sue the small village for use of the name. What can possibly go wrong? What can go right? Combine honor, love, the Internet and a dash of the judicial system and what is revealed is an enchanting concoction that examines the absurdities of the modern world.
