One of the members of the Fat Acceptance Group, Lydia struggles to come to terms with her own feelings about her body. When she meets Darcy, a skinny real estate agent with past problems with anorexia, they seem like an unlikely pair. ?I am your worst nightmare,? Lydia tells her, yet their mutual need for friendship overcomes their physical differences. Bored by her self-started exercise group and relationship with a new boyfriend, Bob, Lydia becomes more self-conscious about her appearance, leading to a startling request that may threaten her bond with Darcy.

A story that could have easily turned mean-spirited and condescending, Glenn Gers?s Disfigured is instead a funny and ultimately moving account of characters conquering life?s barriers and finally being able to say, ?This is me.?
