Rice Rhapsody

Running time: 108 mins

"Rice Rhapsody stir-fries traditional Chinese prejudices with Western elements to create a... fresh flavor." ? Variety

Single mother Jen (played by screen icon Sylvia Chang) runs a Hainan chicken rice restaurant. After being abandoned by her husband twelve years earlier, Jen raised her three sons alone. She used her mother's secret Hainan Chicken Rice recipe and opened a restaurant to support the family. Her two older sons, Daniel and Harry, are gay which leaves her with Leo, the youngest son, who's a model student and a good cyclist. A woman with traditional values, Jen is fretful that she will have no grandchildren, if Leo turns out to be gay too.

Meanwhile, Jen's only realistic romantic possibility is her best friend and bachelor neighbor Kim Chui?who also doubles as her greatest rice dish rival with his specialty Hainan Duck Rice. Together Jen and Kim Chui, devise a plan to keep Leo straight by bringing Sabine, a French exchange student who is the same age, to live with at with mother and son. Needless to say, their plan is a lot tougher to pull of than it looks.

Kenneth Bi?s wonderful comedy Rice Rhapsody is an entrancing comedy with an array of energetic characters that garner laughs and tears. Executive produced by Jackie Chan and featuring stellar performances (including Chang and Martin Yan), it is sure to be one of this year?s festival hits.
