Planting Melvin

Running time: 99 mins

Billie Lawrence has it all. Elegance. Weekend home. Three-car garage. The perfect life. Or so it seems. Inside the gated walls of her community, Billie suffers in silence as her husband increases his violent abuse.

One night he goes too far. Billie waits until the inevitable post-beating black out, then steps out of his life forever. Escaping to a lush and remote community, she finds friendship in a dying old man: Melvin Howard. Their respective predicaments create a bond between them. Melvin?s stories eventually reveal a murder-mystery from World War II. Billie then reveals that she has a secret too?one that even Dr. Phil would have a tough time explaining.

Planting Melvin is a wonderful story of empowerment and reclaiming oneself at any cost. Written and directed by Bay Area director Kari Nevil, it is an enticing treat filled with spiritualism, mystery and friendship.
