Spectres

Running time: 95 mins

Kelly is a beautiful, young 16-year-old who, like many teenagers, feels her life has become unbearably dark and depressed. Her father?s death, along with her workaholic mom, does not make life any easier, and a failed suicide attempt gives Kelly?s mom, Laura, a wake-up call. Hoping a change of scenery will help, mom and daughter rent a house for a long summer vacation.

The big house on the hill offers peace, quiet and... mystery. It?s not all vacation, though. Part of Kelly?s recovery process includes regular sessions with a psychiatrist. Additionally, they?ve barely unpacked when Kelly starts a friendship with a young man whom her mom and doctor believe is merely a physical manifestation of her own defenses... an attempt to transform a scary world into a safe, welcoming place. But when they try to dismiss the young man, they unleash something that no one could see coming.

Both a family drama and a mysterious ghost story, Cupertino-raised filmmaker Phil Leirness? (The Party Crashers, Cinequest 1999) Spectres displays his unique talent for drawing complex characters balanced with stylish entertaining cinema.
