RESISTANCE

Cinequest has a rich history of presenting stories that give enormous inspiration and depict the positive impact one person can have on lives. We continue this tradition with Resistance, the powerful retelling of the life of Marcel Marceau and his incredible efforts to save lives during WWII.

Long before his stardom as mime Marcel Marceau, aspiring actor Marcel Mangel (Academy Award nominee Jesse Eisenberg, The Social Network) was already a hero. Mangel had joined the French Resistance to save the lives of thousands of children, orphaned at the hands of the Nazis. Marcel had no intention of getting involved in the war, but his life was thrown into upheaval when the French Resistance recruited him. Putting his acting skills to use, he taught orphaned Jewish children how to survive the horrifying reality of the Holocaust. Co-starring Academy Award nominee Ed Harris (Apollo 13, The Hours), Resistance tells the revolutionary tale of a selfless act that would forever change countless lives.

Powerful, mesmerizing, and completely unforgettable, Resistance is an untold true-story that will move your heart. Ultimately it brings joy—culminating the Cinequest 2020 theme of elation in the ideal way. A special conversation with Venezuela’s beloved director Jonathan Jakubowicz (Hands of Stone, the story of Latino legend Roberto Duran) follows.

The evening includes the Maverick Spirit Event and conversation with star Jesse Eisenberg, and will also be joined at the Q&A by director/writer Jonathan Jakubowicz and producer Claudine Jakubowicz.
