Shorts Program 2: Slanted

Running time: 104 mins

You can live straight ahead, but sometimes the world is slanted.

The short films in this program go straight for the heart and make no apologies about the slightly skewed way they view the world. The Dive is a maritime tale of betrayal and revenge in which a young man about to escape his tragic youth is forced to confront the man who destroyed his family. Tapeworm plumbs the depths of teenage eating disorders by following a girl who wants to lose weight and her unhealthy obsession with obtaining and eating the titular parasite. Hard Silence (Silencio Fuerte) challenges audiences to consider the life of Karla, an abused young Latina woman who needs to leave her bad situation, but goes only deeper into darkness trying to get out. Hollow, from British director Rob Sorrenti, is an unflinching portrait of addiction, withdrawal and temptation, even in the face of every reason to quit. Autumn Man, a Swedish adventure into the truly bizarre follows two cursed companions in their quest for deeper meaning, belonging and coffee.
