Opening Night Screening - The Big Kahuna
Running time: N/A
Sell it or...sell it! Those are the only options for Larry (Kevin Spacey) and Phil (Danny DeVito), if they want to stay employed with their firm. It's the night of their big reception, and along with ushering the fresh-faced Bob (Pete Facinelli) into their less-than-glamorous life of salesmanship, the biggest client of their careers is about to pass through their door. Larry and Phil have been selling for years, and in their highly competitive career of urgency, non-stop travel, and seemingly never-ending nights, it is understandable that their fear of failure is personified by new kid on the block Bob. It is also evident that neither Larry nor Phil is about to be shown up by the "new blood." The reception begins. The prospective clients come and go. Where is the "big kahuna" they've been waiting for? Could he possibly be the one who was not wearing the name tag? The Big Kahuna is a wonderfully crafted and intense film by first-time helmer, John Swanbeck, whose own work as a theatre director has provided a natural transit into creating intriguing and mature films. Along with a haunting and genuine script from Roger Hueff (based on his own play, "Hospitality Suite") and brilliant performances by Spacey, DeVito, and Facinelli, director Swanbeck presents a film with an ever-lasting impression. It is a film about insecurities. It is about power and the instinct to survive. It is about friendship and the bonds that bring each of us together. - Mike Rabehl Director: John Swanbeck; Producers: Kevin Spacey, Elie Samaha, Andrew Stevens; Screenwriter: Roger Rueff (based on his play "Hospitality Suite"); Cinematographer: Anastas N.
