Shorts Program 9: San Jose Shorts

Running time: N/A

Shorts Program 9 - San Jose Shorts. Three shorts from three San Jose filmmakers; projects that tend to share personnel, locations and maybe equipment. These three short films cover gritty survival and redemption themes, quiet slice-of-life set pieces and momÕs creepy, new boyfriend. Local actor Tim Halpin takes the lead in The Greatest Challenge, playing a homeless boxer who refuses to help himself. In Doyle, he is the titular boyfriend, a shifty security guard who charms his way into the life of a woman and her teenaged daughter. Peter CarterÕs Local Time follows a day in the life of a San Jose Ôcowboy,Õ one who needs to drop a quarter into his horse for a ride. Appropriately titled, the filmÕs static shots and long takes offer us a flip side to the hectic pace of life in this tech-bound, go-go valley. Reviewed by Bill Maxey
