Director Anita McGee (Seven Brides for Uncle Sam, Cinequest 1998; Little Dickie, Cinequest 2003) returns with her feature debut, an offbeat, romantic tale about love, passion, fantasy and self-discovery. Honey Reddigan works in quality control at a bread factory - the Sweet Bea Bakery. Sounds sweet, but much to the dismay of Honey, she spends day in and day out watching the bread dough plop into pans. To relieve the monotony, she dreams of love and comes up with plotlines for her real vocation, writing. Honey writes romance novels. And good ones, too, according to her co-workers and biggest fans - the Sweet Bea women. Carmen is Honey's fictional heroine and her alter ego. In her new adventure, Carmen meets a surly but sexy baker, Antonio, in typical romance novel fashion. Honey's novel goes terribly wrong, however, when she falls for her real-life love, Edmund Goobie, the local weatherman and star of Weather at Five. But when they buy a bread maker together on impulse, it turns out to be a symbol of their doomed relationship: to her it is an act of commitment; to him it is just an appliance. Can a girl recover from the casual purchase of a major household appliance? And can her novel survive the radical changes Honey is making to it as a result? Al Owens EMERGING MAVERICKS & NEW VISIONS
