Mixing strong drink with restless humor, Sunday on the Rocks is a voyeuristic romp with four roommates, a bottle of scotch and the universal struggles of love, faith, sex and friendship. Elly, Gayle, Jen and Jessica share an old Victorian house in New England. When Gayle discovers Elly having scotch for breakfast, Gayle's playfulness quickly turns to concern when Elly reveals a troubling "secret." But Elly wants a drinking buddy, not someone to feel sorry for her, and craftily persuades Gayle to join her. And there is no difficulty in getting the sweet and sexy Jen to follow suit. But the party is abruptly halted when the sober Jessica arrives home from church, already in a bad mood. The peace of mind built on trust and faith in each other quickly dissolves into a battle of wills as all four women reflect on who they were, who they are and who they will be in relation to their world and their friendships. Prolific actor Joe Morton (Brother From Another Planet, Terminator 2, Lone Star) steps behind the camera to adapt Theresa Rebeck's stage play. Sunday on the Rocks proves that divisions among friends can be resolved only with the escalation of emotions that drew those friends together in the first place. John Ignowski MAVERICK COMPETITION
