Lawrence Andrews' latest film illustrates the work of the women of the Medea Project, a theater for incarcerated women, as their creations send them on a self-exploratory journey that culminates in a public group performance piece. Veteran theater actor and director Rhodessa Jones was inspired to begin this program when she taught classes at the San Francisco County Jail. Through her students' incredible pasts, telling stories that they had never shared, Rhodessa saw the seeds of a powerful performance piece. Through the process, vignettes of life are revealed, sharing and healing take place and strong women emerge. It may start as storytelling, but the work of the Medea Project is worlds beyond that.
