Doug E. Equipped with not much more than a lightweight rap and a vague vision of filmmaking, Bed-Stuy resident James (Doug E. Doug from Cosby) decides to film The Angela Davis Story with his two entirely clueless friends, Steffan and Fuquan. With absolutely no idea where to start, they go in search of the great filmmaker, Bleep Lee. Stolen cash, egos and thugs collide as the trio makes hilarious attempts to convey their cinematic genius to skeptical neighbors. Full of clever banter and social commentary, Citizen James sends up popular film genres, while lampooning its own assumptions in the process. It is also a film that demands attention, as it is the story of the birth of a maverick, developing through a state called adolescence.
