Mindbenders has proven to be one of the most widely successful and popular programs with festival audiences over the past 10 years. It is a Cinequest staple sought after by dedicated fans, hungry for challenging subjects and/or the outright odd. This year's program will, no doubt, continue the string as it swings wildly from twisted humor to shocking reality (and unreality) and into the visually hallucinogenic. The year 2000 edition of Mindbenders ranges across the map. Highlighting the series is J.J. Sedelmaier, creator of the Ambiguously Gay Duo episodes that were loved by audiences of Cinequest 9. Witness Robert Ellman's fantastical rumination on professional sports sponsorship with a Czech twist. Director, Mike Booth, returns with another bolexbrothers production (The Saint Inspector, Keep in a Dry Place and Away from Children) that mixes live action and stop motion animation into a stew of love, lust, and disgust. Back in the USA, from the mid-West come films rooted, respectively, in fantasy and reality by Rick Dublin and Dewey Nicks. Then, of course, we cannot forget "Whose reality are we talking about?" will probably be the question popping up after these films.
