Elles

Running time: N/A

Living isn't always easy. Luckily there are your friends to help you through. Five women, all edging the wrong side of 40, face life's ups and downs together with laughter, tears and sometimes irony. Their only imperative: live, love and live some more... Linda, a prime-time television reporter seeks to find what women in her age group want. Observing Barbara, the woman who has devoted her life to her family only to end up alone; Eva, a professor having an affair with a 19 year-old student; and Chloe, someone who finds herself suddenly attracted to women, Linda discovers each woman is at a critical crossroad in her life. The cast is a brilliant mix of new discoveries and classic actors. Many have been seen before in such Hollywood films as Marathon Man, Barry Lyndon and Clear and Present Danger. Carmen Maura, best known for her work in Pedro Admodovar's Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, brilliantly portrays the workaholic Linda. She is the center in this storm of women on a search for their own way. Director Luis Galvao Teles brings us an intimate and complex look at the lives of these women. Often poignant and touching, Elles is a story of a search to which everyone can relate: finding out what life is truly about. --Chris Lion
