Vargas, a native of San Jose, is a Romeo and Juliet love story, complete with romance and tragedy. Alex Munoz was brought up in East San Jose and knows what he is talking about in Por Vida when he portrays the life of an innocent Latino youth who tries to find his roots in the persona of his missing father in Mexico. On the way, he finds love and comfort in the arms of a prostitute with a heart of gold. In How Else Am I supposed to Know I am Still Alive? written by Evelina Fernandez and directed by Jose Luis Valenzuela, two good, old friends in their late 40's are faced with an unexpected pregnancy. This lively comedy full of twists and turns keeps the audience hooked until the finale. Andrea Seligmann's Sao Paulo South Border explores the life of teens in the suburbs of Sao Paulo. It's an accurate portrayal of class struggle, drugs and violence in an environment which lacks soul. De Tripas, Corazon by Antonio Urrutia is a story about two adolescents approaching their first sexual experience. Both are attracted to the most coveted woman in town and the way in which each approaches her will determine their sexual awakening experience. Elpidia Carillo (Jimmy Smit's girlfriend in Mi Familia) stars as the object of their desire. How can a grandson and his grandfather understand each other when the first threatening signs of Alzheimer's Disease widens the already large generation gap? This is the challenge that a 12 year-old boy and his grandfather undertake in Sangre a moving story by Belita Moreno, with special appearances by Holly Hunter and John Lithgow.
