Sobrenatural (All of Them Witches)
Running time: N/A
From its first scenes, Sobrenatural enters with the rage of a storm and speeds its viewer into a realm saturated with black magic. The screams of Eva, as she is murdered, haunt Dolores for days. Dolores and Andres live down the hall from Eva's apartment, and after her horrifying death, Andres increasingly becomes withdrawn and quiet. Worried about their marriage, Dolores seeks the help of therapist Dr. Riojas, beginning a radical transformation in Dolores. Breaking into Eva's now vacant apartment, Dolores discovers a strange powder and the business card of a "heal-sorcerer", Madame Endor. Madame Endor lives in a mysterious and wondrous cave below Mexico City where Dolores is swept away in a vortex of witchcraft and saint worshipping rituals. It is soon obvious that not only was Eva mixed up in sorcery, but somehow, Andres knows what is going on, and Dolores is in great danger. The enigmatic street beggar and his dog do not help matters either as Dolores' world soon topples and spirals down to a plane of delirious insanity. With an awesome visual style, director Daniel Gruener takes an eerie, refreshing look at the age old battle between good and evil. Using breathtaking sets and magnificent cinematography, Sobrenatural is visionary filmmaking at its most inspiring, and it superbly represents the ever impressive quality of films which Mexico has to offer. --Mike Rabehl
