Baba's Journey: An African Dream
Running time: N/A
Everyone has a dream. Baba's is to become the "king" of football in France. He is not, however, the only one in his village who wishes this. His family, his friends and pretty much the entire town has their eye on Baba's success. Baba looks to possibly be the one of the finest football players in the world, and it is no surprise that he is noticed by a scout who offers him the chance to come and show what he has. It is Baba's responsibility, however, to pay his way, and hasn't even a third of the money required. But Baba will do whatever he can to get to Paris and takes whatever work he can to earn his way. Unfortunately, Baba's uncle has other plans for the money. Utilizing a unique blend of fiction and "real life", director Christine Eymeric (known for her documentary filmmaking) creates an honest story of emotional upheaval and transformation. Baba never loses his dream even when it seems only illusion. Rather than giving up hope, Baba's Journey paves the road along which a boy must travel to become a man. --Mike Rabehl
