It's called "soul-searching" for a reason; when one's at a point in their life where the many roads of their identity diverge, and they must choose the correct path to follow. Of course, life cannot always be spoken in metaphors, and we all face the reality that we just have to get by in the best way we know. This program, U.S.A. - SKETCHES OF THE SOUL, contains three films whose characters are making their way.L.K. Noller's HUB CAP WORLD is a film that asks the question, "Do three New Jersey losers have anything to lose?" Joey works at a hub cap shop. His is a pot-holed "road" to romance. With a pregnant girlfriend and little good advice from his friends, Joey is on the verge of making his decision whether or not he's ready for marriage and fatherhood. With incredible performances by Anthony De Sando (FEDERAL HILL, PARTY GIRL) and Catherine Curtin (SIX DEGREES OF SEPARATION - Broadway), HUB CAP WORLD paints an urban picture of love, life and the pursuit one's self.Director Ron Link's TIME AND AGAIN features two people whose "roads" have crossed, one seems to fear continuing down his chosen path while the other fears she is not moving at all. The film features incredible performances by Grace Zabriskie (TWIN PEAKS), Vince Marotta (DEADLY GAMES), Dan Gerrity and Peri Gilpin (FRASIER).Director Jonathan Schell's PICASSO WOULD HAVE MADE A GLORIOUS WAITER is an unconventional look at the world of New York artists and their lives as moonlighting waiters. Or is it the other way around? Nevertheless, as one can clearly see while watching the film, one's chosen "road" is not always clearly defined. --Mike Rabehl
