Last Call
Running time: N/A
Once the diploma is placed in a college graduate's hand, a new life begins; one full of fulfilled dreams and great successes. Well, actually that's the picture that has been painted for the past four years for housemates Jack, Mickey, Dennis, Rob and Josh. Reality, however, now sets in, and each must face the fact that the real world is not what it's cracked up to be. What do they do? They decide to take a break from reality for a little longer, hang out together in Santa Cruz for another year of fun and throw a final party bash at their infamous house "El Rancho Grande". Life, however, throws it's funny ironies their way. Jack's art professor (John Rhys-Davies) says Jack's thesis project lacks content or creativity, while his father (Spalding Gray) persecutes him for getting an art degree rather than something useful. Sexually-repressed Mickey lacks self-esteem while trying to get together with Chelsea (Alyssa Milano). Dennis receives a University staff position only to find there are other reasons for his acceptance. Rob's not sure he's ready for a bigger commitment with his girlfriend and is at the dreaded "mom-meeting" stage of their relationship. And Josh (a.k.a "Slosh"), the college drop-out, is looking to possibly move in with the guys down the street. All of this leads to one thing for each member of the household. Can they move on into the unknown? Rich Wilkes' film LAST CALL answers this question with a story wrought with comedy, poignancy and "savage catharsis", and cleverly molds an intimate encounter with it's characters, providing a unique experience for the viewer. --Mike Rabehl
