Identity Crisis

Running time: N/A

Who am I? And who are you? Who we are is the subject of a fascinating series of shorts we call IDENTITY CRISIS. In each film, self-study and self discovery are the overriding themes. In the aptly titled "I" (Joel Roman Mendias), the question of identity is met head on...namely sexual identity. In Ann Kaneko's LUCY GOES SHOPPING, the clothes may make the man, but they sure don't make Lucy. Lucy shows us that what we learn and what we wear is not always what we are. MEN LIKE ME (Susan M. Long) explores the lives of 'transgenderists'...women who surgically become men. Noteworthy is the film's use of ground-breaking computer animation to illustrate many of it's points. Women soldiers in Vietnam are the subject of Nancy D. Kates' THEIR OWN VIETnAM, winner of the Academy Award for Student Short. This engrossing documentary gives us the Vietnam experience...from a new perspective. Judy Hecht Dumontet's THE NOVICE is a poignant story of a young woman's decision to become a nun. Along the way, her faith is tested by a handsome handyman doing work on the convent grounds. In Colleen Crabtree's NO HANDS, a little girl aspires to be the next Evel Knievel...on a big wheel! The film is a touching tale of dreams, perseverance and the importance of a strong self-image. --Matt Aquino
