Dani Breznitz? life is falling apart at the seams. A fortysomething detective on the Tel Aviv Police Force, his childless marriage is a joke, and Eva, his sexy mistress, ends their torrid affair. Complicating matters, he has just been released from the hospital after a near fatal car accident, and his hostile superior has handed him an insignificant case, which Dani considers beneath him. But when an unknown body is found in the woods, and nobody cares, Dani finds a cause he can believe in.

As Dani tries to unravel the crime, he becomes obsessed with both finding the murderer and getting back Eva. In his pursuit of the killer, Dani traverses Israel?s underworld where we meet an Arab intellectual who admits to a crime Dani is convinced he did not commit, a prostitute turned hairdresser, a pimp turned born again Jew and a gay artist rejected by his parents. And as his life continues to unwind, Dani finds that his two obsessions are shockingly beginning to merge.

Shmil Ben Ari, who brilliantly plays Dani, gives us a portrait of an alienated, hard boiled cop in the best of crime noir tradition. Showing us a side of the Israel that is rarely seen, Matti Harari?s The Last Suspect will surprise and delight not only noir fans, but also anyone who appreciates a finely crafted story with an unforgettable character to match.
