Hard work is the key to success. Director Roger Weisberg (Aging Out; Cinequest 2004) disproves that simplistic homily by chronicling four American workers over three years. As part of an ever-growing class known as the ?working poor,? this diverse group struggles to lift themselves out of the burdens of poverty and into the realm of the American Dream.

Jean, a nursing assistant, supporting herself, her children and grandchildren, is faced with the stark reality of homelessness. Jerry, a security guard who can barely afford his room in San Francisco, pursues improved working conditions. Barbara, a single mom, student and juvenile counselor, receives a raise, only to find that her new wages make her ineligible to receive needed benefits. Mary, a waitress and divorced mom, is drowning in debt and may lose her home.

These are just four of the millions of Americans attempting to live paycheck to paycheck. Yet, they continue to fight to share in a lifestyle seemingly out of their reach, unwilling to give up on their dreams. Weisberg has won over a hundred awards with his work in film, including Emmy, Peabody and DuPont-Columbia awards, and received an Academy Award nomination for Sound and Fury.
