The Teacher
Running time: 102 mins
All fingers point to her... but who will blow the whistle? A brilliant and delicious blend of humor and irony. Since the arrival of the new teacher, Miss Drazdechova, life has turned upside down for students and parents; so much that the turmoil over her ties to the Communist Party lead the Principal to call an urgent meeting with the community. It is during this meeting that they must make decisions that will put the future of all the families at stake. But, they have no choice but to make a decision: will they dare to go against Miss Drazdechova and stand up for what they believe in at any risk, or will they just remain silent and let things be? The prolific director-writer duo Jan Hrebejk and Petr Jarchovsky (Divided We Fall, Cozy Dens) maneuver the audience into states of knowing and unknowing, playing with viewer expectations much like Drazdechova plays her students and their parents. Coupled with impeccable production design and an excellent ensemble performance, The Teacher is a rugged comedy that is engaging as much as it is provoking.
