The Citizen

Running time: 110 mins

What does it mean to be a citizen? What does it take to become one? And when is the cost too high? Wilson Ugabe, an African refugee from a brutal war, lives in Budapest and is studying to pass the exams to become a Hungarian citizen.  When he helps a desperate, pregnant Iranian woman who appears one night at his door, his act of kindness will change his life in ways he cannot imagine. This deeply involving film's emotional honesty gives us the rare opportunity not just to watch but truly to share the frustrations, disappointments, joys, and hopes of so many who are caught in circumstances sadly far too common in our modern world. Getting to know these decent people so intimately could just change us all for the better. – Charlie Cockey Sponsored by the Applied Materials Foundation
