When Carol (Arabella Bushnell), a quirky but emotionally restrained woman in her late thirties, prompted by an art therapy class, starts sending her friends and co-workers her very frank opinions of them in the form of moody songs, all hell breaks loose. Some take out a restraining order, her boss is incited to resuscitate his former dream of rock stardom, and Carol leaves the mundane behind to pursue her newfound artistic expression. Extremely amusing and with a very dry, humorous streak in it, Songs She Wrote About People She Knows is a visually striking and, at times, truly hypnotic first feature from Canadian director and screenwriter Kris Elgstrand. - Liva Petersone
