The Believers
Running time: 83 mins
Two mavericks try to change the world - and pay the price.
In 1989, Martin Fleischmann and Stanley Pons, two scientists from the University of Utah, achieved near rock-star status when they made a startling discovery: cold fusion could solve our energy needs. But a problem quickly arose. More prestigious scientists doubted the existence of cold fusion, and the two believers spent the rest of their careers trying to rehabilitate their ruined reputations.
The Believers is much more than a film about the science of cold fusion. It is a fascinating and provocative look at how unorthodox ideas can upset and scare the powers that be. And while the mystery and wonderment of cold fusion remain unresolved, The Believers proves that there will always be those with unconventional ideas who strive to change the world, no matter what the obstacles. - Sandy Wolf
