The Other Family
Running time: 136 mins
Family is still family. Conventional or not.
With his surprising and heart-wrenching film, Gustavo Loza calls attention to the devastating backlash of prejudice against homosexuals in a conservative Mexican city. When cocaine addict Nina abandons her seven year old son, Hendrix, their neighbor Ivana (Ana Serradilla) becomes determined to help. She appeals to her friends, couple Jean Paul (Jorge Salinas) and Chema, to care for Hendrix until she convinces Nina to enter rehab. Despite their initial apprehension, Jean Paul and Chema begin to love the boy as if they were his fathers. Though when broken traditions are left in disrepair, intolerance separates the boy's unconventional but loving family.
