The Island President

Running time: 101 mins

To save his country, he has to save our planet.

Director Jon Shenk documents the fight for the Maldives, the island nation off the coast of India and captures the tranquility of this paradisiacal location while juxtaposing the harsh reality the country faces. We follow President Mohamed Nasheed as he makes strides to repair the damage done by his predecessor's thirty year reign and prevent the impending destruction of the Maldives. Amongst discussions of global warming and its dire effects, Nasheed knows, without any changes, his nation would vanish under the sea in 30 years. He must convince powerhouse nations (China, United States, Brazil, etc.) and the world to stop talking and start acting. With quality reminiscent of Planet Earth, The Island President delivers the majesty and harmony of this nation and creates a longing for a positive future.

The March 5th screening will be followed by a Q&A with director Jon Shenk.
