The World According to Ion B
Running time: 60 mins
Once upon a time, in a trash-strewn Bucharest backstreet, lived a forgotten man whose astonishing collection of artwork went unnoticed for 22 years. But then, one day...
For years Ion Barduleanu lived in a Bucharest alley, sleeping by garbage cans, drinking, running errands ? and saving old discarded magazines, creating from them highly artistic, provocative satirical collages. This was during Ceaucescu?s reign, however, and had they been known their political incisiveness would probably have landed Barduleanu in jail or worse. What happened 22 years later when Alex Nanau started filming, though, is a miracle ? the stuff that dreams are made of. The relationship forged here between filmmaker and subject is something rarely achieved and greatly to be treasured, as the act of creation and discovery happens in front of our eyes.
But we should take nothing for granted, for Ion B is nothing if not his own man.
