Tatawo
Running time: 89 mins
Simona has more tattoos on her body than Dennis Rodman. And she shows them off by dancing naked in the shop window of Tatawo, a combination disco/bar/tattoo parlor in Barcelona. Simona has come to Barcelona from India with her lover, Francis, who drew the tattoos on her body. They have arrived to help free Mariel--known simply as The Cuban--from jail. The Cuban's wife, Bug, has waited four long years for him, but upon release, he tells her that jail has changed him. All he wants now is to be alone. But when he sees Simona, The Cuban is instantly "blown away." Meanwhile, Francis disappears without leaving a clue to his whereabouts, and Simona, still deeply in love with him, pines for his return. The Cuban knows that "love is eternal - it just changes hands." But as long as Simona has Francis' tattoos engraved all over her body, she will never be free of him. The Cuban once sacrificed his freedom for love; now he is willing to take another chance in order to free Simona of her tattoos--the symbol of her love for another. Taking us from India to Spain, director Jo Sol crafts an erotic tale of loneliness and obsession. Perfectly blending an eclectic soundtrack of Indian, Spanish and Cuban music, Tatawo is a modern-day fable that will leave you pondering the mysterious nature of love. Reviewed by Sandy Wolf
