Trash

Running time: 110 mins

Cinequest is proud to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Andy Warhol and Paul Morrissey's most famous production of the early 70's, Trash, the sordid comedic tale of an impotent junkie, played by Warhol superstar, Joe Dallesandro, who wanders around New York while various women try to arouse him. A female impersonator, Holly Woodlawn, plays his ersatz wife. Her intense performance amidst the prevailing deadpan tone is entertainingly incongruous. Her goal in life is to get on welfare, and, to accomplish this, she pretends to be pregnant. But the welfare investigator, played by Michael Sklar, has eyes only for the fabulous forties shoes that the wife found in a garbage can, and she adamantly refuses to give them up. Will Holly ever get on welfare and become a normal housewife? Will her junkie stud ever be able to get it up again? Vile, outrageous, and a dead-on satire of the lifestyle of the times, this piece of cinematic memorabilia is both refreshing and retro...and even comes to you in a fully-restored print. WARNING: Sex, death, drugs and nudity are all prominently displayed. Get down, get groovy, get TRASHed. --Ken Karn
