Don
Running time: 90 mins
He's only 9 years old. He doesn't cut school to play with his friends. He doesn't even go to school. He works as a mechanic, a carpet cleaner, or a typewriter repairman. He works wherever he can find someone to pay him or for whoever doesn't ask too many questions about his non-existent identification papers. He's illiterate. And no one's on his side. His name is Farhad. His father is a junkie. Farhad is the responsible one, the breadwinner. He's learned to say what he needs to say and do what he needs to do to make a way for himself. And he's only 9 years old. Don is a docudrama which shows how adult responsibility can take over and rule the life of a child. Farhad has all the obligations that accompany adulthood with none of the freedoms and privileges. Farhad is a child struggling to take control of his life in a world that won't allow him to do so. There are roadblocks everywhere he turns--obstacles that he simply cannot overcome. His determination and childlike quest to persevere is both surprising and haunting. --Kristina Batiste
