Out of Season

Running time: 98 mins

Arriving with her leather jacket, Marlboros and attitude firmly in place, Micki Silva is little prepared to care for her dying uncle or to fall in love with the striking Roberta. Micki, brilliantly played by Broadway's Carol Monda, has abandoned yet another relationship and seeks solace at her uncle's house in a small beach community during the off season. Her gruff exterior belies not the typical soft heart, but a damaged soul yearning to find life again and unwilling to admit her need for companionship. Meeting Roberta, portrayed with subtle elegance by Joy Kelly, Micki meets a woman with emotional wounds equal to her own. Through their common bond with MickiÕs Uncle Charlie, they may just learn to love again. First time director Jeanette L. Buck takes us on a beautifully photographed journey of discovery not only of the character's past, but also her present and future. Buck has the pulse on what a true relationship is, about the give and take, and about finding love where you least expect it. --Chris Lion
