Opera
Running time: 87 mins
Infidelity plays out like the acts of an opera.
Winner of the The International Critics Prize (FIPRESCI Prize), Opera is a subtle cinematic journey. Some say infidelity is human nature. Sometimes it?s portrayed negatively, sometimes, glamorously, but not often how it truly is. A young Mexican girl finds herself drawn to the lure of a much older man. His image as a sophisticated novelist attracts her, and soon she finds herself on the road with him, far away from home, as he completes his tourist guide. Their trip together is often filled with silence, but an encounter at a small town bar creates a jolt in the course of their unplanned journey. Rebellion, independence, shame and naiveté are the chords of the opera that builds into a crescendo. With moments that will make your heart pound, Opera surprises through an opus of realization that leaves behind traces of an undecided future left for the imagination to define.
